Long distance running
Only in complete solitude we do learn true meaning of the phrase “KNOW THYSELF”. And Long Distance Running provides you that opportunity. It gives you the very opportunity to connect with yourself. To me it all started around a year and half back with moderate walk/jog/run and soon I started liking the positives it infuses in me. I kept increasing distance and soon tempted to run 2nd edition of Indore Marathon. In last Feb I finished my first ever 13 miler huffing n puffing in 2:06 hrs. That 13 miler taught me the importance of overall physical fitness. I was looking for someone to guide me and here came to my rescue AIM sponsored Runners Clinic under able guidance of Coach Manmeet. With time my love for distance keeps soaring and soon I graduated to 26 miler and finished my maiden Full Marathon at the age of 51 in last Aug at Hyderabad in 4:28 hrs. A proud moment for me. In hustle bustle of daily life we often overlook age old fact “health is wealth”. I found running as simplest and powerful means to keep myself fit n fighting physically as well as mentally. Running brings in many positive changes in my life. Long Distance Running has made me more observant, patient and calmer. It taught me importance of focus and rigor. When you register for a long distance race there is a sense of commitment and you know you have to do the things right way to achieve your goal. To run a Marathon or for that matter a Half Marathon you need to put fortitude and discipline with patience and moderation. These very traits you require to be a successful human being. Long distance running requires Planning, Training, Strategy and Execution quite similar to what is needed in successful running of a business/enterprise. Running connected me with a number of wonderful people from different walks of life enriching my life experiences. Most important thing I have learnt from marathon running is that “everything is long haul, nothing happens overnight”.
